THE

EXPERIENCE

Experience

Forest Bathing is a delightful introduction to the healing power of forests. Simply being present in the natural world - with all our senses fully alive - can have a remarkable healing effect. It is a connection to nature, that relationship as well as the healing chemicals of the trees that brings the medicine of  healing. Nature is a powerful physician. This can be a practice of self care and reciprocity. During a forest bathing session you will be given opportunities to connect to nature with all your senses at a deeper level.

Sessions can last from 1 - 3 hours but  studies have shown that health benefits can last within your body for a week and up to a month.

Whether near or far - book online or in person and let me guide you through the healings of nature. I am open to travel as sessions may take place at a nearby park, forest or in your local community.

THE

SCIENCE

Science Anchor

Forest Bathing or Shinrin Yoku originated in Japan in the 1980's, it is now part of their health care system.  The Japanese were transitioning to a technology based economy.  More and more people were spending their time indoors and the medicle system began to notice a climb in cancer and autoimmune diseases.  The Japanese began research projects looking for answers and one question they asked was "What Happens when humans are exposed to forest environments"?  Their discoveries led them to the facts that when a tree is attacked by a fungus or other organisms to keep themselves healthy they shower themselves with a chemical called phytoncydes, the  phytoncydes seeks out the fungus and attacks it.  When humans inhale or absorb phytoncydes through their skin,  our bodies produce special white blood cells called NK cells or natural killer cells.  The NK cells then move through the body looking for cells that are stressed or could turn into cancer  and  then destroys them.  So simply by going into the forest spending time in nature it is a preventable treatment method for disease and it's incredible how nature takes care of us.  Forest Bathing  is now a widely recognized disease prevention strategy.

Over the years the Assoc. of Nature and Forest Therapy  was inspired by Shinrin Yoku and developed a  3 hour experience where people could receive the benefits of forest bathing but also work on their relationship with nature, with themselves and others, and "the more than human world".  This experience will open you up to the healing powers of the forest as well as awaking and deepening our relationships with nature and  the community of life.
